This event is intended to explore the ways in which conversations around Israel / Palestine within and outside of the Hillel community impact our engagement as Jews with social justice activism broadly, and with anti-racism work in the United States particularly. How do we perceive and respond to "internal and external" conceptions of Israeli politics, and what implications does that have on building justice-related coalitions on campus? The purpose is to think about how we as Jews at Brown RISD Hillel feel or don't feel the effects of these discourses in our own work for social and racial justice, rather than to dissect the political complexities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. While this event is not aimed at resolving any of these questions, we do hope that it will launch larger discussions within the Hillel community about our role as Jews and/or Zionists vis-a-vis social justice. When: 5:30-7pm, Monday, May 4, 2015 Where: Hillel Meeting Room |
