Hanukkah 2020
Increasing Light
Please join the Brown RISD Hillel community for a virtual candle lighting and conversation with President Christina Paxson on December 10th, the first night of Hanukkah. We’re calling the evening, Increasing Light, and it will be an opportunity for you to interact with President Paxson on the themes of the holiday and around the student experience in this period of COVID-19. Rabbi Michelle Dardashti will open the evening with a warm communal candle lighting. You can register in advance and also submit your questions for the president. December 10 at 8 PM.
HanukkaHAHA Comedy Hour
Join us for candle-lighting and an evening of students and faculty bringing on the laughs. Our humorous hosts from Brown-RISD Stand Up will be Shoham Benmelech '21 and Gabe Blanc '23. December 12 at 8 PM.
Register, join us and find more details HERE!
8 Crazy Ks Hanukkah Fun Run
There's no better way to celebrate the holiday than getting fit, running fast, and having fun in our virtual 8k race or 2k walk. You can participate wherever you are! Send us a pic of you running and upload your result to the web to compete with the rest of our Brown RISD Hillel Community! Sign up here! December 13.
Celebrating our Victory over Grease
Join Rabbi Moshe Moskowitz for Chanukah candle lighting and a celebration of all things fried! From the traditional to the unexpected, we'll fry up a variety of delectable treats, and share some extra crispy Torah as well! Pre register here to receive a list of ingredients in advance. December 14 at 5 PM.
Rosh Hodesh Tevet Women's Gathering
Join us for a new moon celebration inspired by the North African Jewish women's celebration, Hag HaBanot. Israeli Emissary, Or Cohen (who is of Moroccan/Algerian descent) will lead us in frying up some of her mother's favorite Hanukkah delicacies. You can find more details (including a list of the simple ingredients you'll need) and join us here! December 15 at 4:30 PM.
Sweet & Savory Cooking Class
Diane Forley '84, chef and owner of Flourish Baking Company, will share her recipes and guide us through making a twist on some classic holiday treats. Whether you’d like to cook along with Chef Diane, prep some dishes and finish them on your own time, or just tune in to light candles with Rabbi Michelle Dardashti and the alumni community, we’d love to celebrate with you! Register here! December 16 at 6 PM.
A Hanukkah Gift to the Brown Hillel Community to meaningfully connect
with family for the Holidays:
The Mishpacha — High Holy Days 2020 — Interview Game!
Holidays offer unique opportunities for families to come together, celebrate, learn and receive family and cultural legacies. But this year is different. Covid19 is forcing family members apart, increasing isolation and loneliness, particularly among elders. This Interview Game serves as an antidote by safely bringing Mishpacha (Family) members close in vibrant, meaningful conversations that celebrate and foster family bonds, traditions, legacies, and love. Played safely over Zoom (or preferred video chat platform) Interview Games can be recorded and kept as cherished oral histories for life.
“The Interview Game has never been more important! It facilitates all the important stories, teachings, and love to pass from Dor l'Dor, generation to generation.” — Rabbi Tirzah Firestone.
