The Office of the Chaplains and Religious Life is excited to offer a program focusing on students' personal stories about the power of religion or spirituality to inspire care of humanity and the world. Please join us Thursday, December 3, 2015 from 5 -7:30pm at the home of the Chaplain at 58 Keene Street for a very special Thursday Night Supper (TNS) with writer and educator Allie Wollner (Brown ’10). This final gathering of the semester will be a workshop-style session in which we'll discuss and craft narratives about religion and spirituality as a force of good. Students are invited to submit drafts in advance** of this mini-workshop, or to use space generatively for those just getting started. **Students who wish to send in draft submissions to Chaplain Adnan Adrian Wood-Smith by November 30 may be invited to present them at the 12/3 TNS and/or workshop them 1-1 with Allie in advance.

Watson Jr. University Professor of Technology and Education and Professor of Computer Science at Brown University. He has been a member of Brown's faculty since 1965, was a co-founder of Brown's Computer Science Department and its first Chairman from 1979-85, and was Brown's first VP for Research from 2002-06. He has been working for over four decades on systems for creating and reading electronic books with interactive illustrations for use in teaching and research. In 1967 he co-founded ACM SICGRAPH and from 1985-87 was Chairman of the Computing Research Association. He is a Fellow of ACM, IEEE, and AAAS, a member of the National Academy of Engineering, and the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. He has received the ACM Karl V. Karlstrom Outstanding Educator Award, the SIGGRAPH Steven A. Coons Award for Outstanding Creative Contributions to Computer Graphics, and the IEEE Centennial Medal, and holds four honorary doctorates. He has authored or co-authored over 100 papers and nine books. About Bernard Mandelbaum Rabbi Bernard Mandelbaum was president of the Jewish Theological Seminary from 1966 to 1972. After being ordained in 1946, he held a variety of posts at the Seminary, including Dean of Students and Provost before becoming president under Rabbi Louis Finkelstein, chancellor. He was also Professor of Midrash, or scriptural interpretation. His major scholarly work was a critical edition of the "Pesikta deRav Kahana," a work of biblical interpretation dating to the Fifth Century. Professor David Mandelbaum is honored to host this Shabbat dinner in his father's memory every fall.
