College Hill Abroad in Israel (the CHAI fellowship) is Brown RISD Hillel’s platform for undergrads at Brown and RISD to pursue independent projects in Israel over the summer. CHAI aims to bring many, diverse student initiatives to life during Summer 2022, so think big! Want to volunteer on a solar energy farm? Learn Hebrew or Arabic? Conduct scientific research at a university or intern with an exciting start-up? CHAI is your opportunity to explore Israel in your own way, on your own terms. Successful applicants will receive generous travel and living stipends from Brown RISD Hillel.

Application Process
Possible opportunities:
- Applications open November 15, 2021 on UFUNDS. Head to ufunds.brown.edu and search for “College Hill Abroad in Israel”
- (optional) Reach out to Brown RISD Hillel’s Coordinator of Israel Engagement, Joe Blumberg (joe_blumberg@brown.edu) to have a preliminary discussion about your proposal
- Fill out your application with your finalized project proposal
- Some applicants will be invited for a short interview with Brown RISD Hillel staff
- Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through April 1, 2022. The priority application deadline is February 10, and priority applicants will be notified by March 1. Funds are limited, so we advise applying early!
- If you are a RISD student, please reach out to Joe directly so he can set up an account for you on UFUNDS.
- Gain hands-on professional experience in your field, or pursue a passion project you’ve always wanted to try
- Deepen your understanding of Israeli culture, history and politics
- Explore Israel on your own terms, in your own way
- Spend your summer in Israel with many other students from Brown and RISD!
Possible opportunities:
- Volunteer for a solar energy farm in the desert
- Work on a kibbutz
- Intern for an Israeli company
- Learn at a yeshiva (Jewish learning institution)
- Volunteer for a local nonprofit
- Learn Hebrew at an Ulpan
- Research at an Israeli university
- Teach English at a community school
- Work with an Israeli-Palestinian peacebuilding organization
- Work with an NGO
- Pursue an independent research project
- So much more!
