Learning Opportunities
Winter 2021
LEARN with the Shalom Hartman Institute’s top faculty from North America and Israel.
ENGAGE with other students from other campuses.
EXPLORE sites and subjects of Israel and Jewish peoplehood with Rabbi Dardashti and a diverse cohort
of Jews from College Hill.
This winter, Brown and RISD Jewish students will again have the opportunity to study the challenges and opportunities facing Israel, through the lens of Jewish texts, values, and ideas in a pluralistic setting. Hundreds of college students participate in the seminar each year, from 20+ college campuses.
The week-long seminar includes study at the Shalom Hartman Institute’s campus in the center of Jerusalem. Students also participate in tiyulim, or field trips, to investigate real-life examples and applications of the issues studied on campus.
FAQs:
How will booking and payment for flights work? Once you apply and get accepted, you’ll book your own flight and then get reimbursed up to $1000! (And, yes, you may remain in Israel for as long as you’d like following the program.)
When do we need to arrive? You should plan to arrive the afternoon or evening of December 21st or the 22nd in the morning. (You will have a hotel room awaiting you in Jerusalem by the evening of the 21st and you need to arrive by the 22nd to enable COVID test results, from testing done at the airport in Tel Aviv, to return in time for the program’s start on the morning of December 23rd.)
Who pays for the hotel and learning/meals at Hartman and ground transportation in Israel? We’re asking that each student contribute $360 toward their participation in this program! (If $360 is prohibitive, please be in touch to let us know.)
