For some people, Judaism is a spiritual practice; for others, it’s a cultural identity. Others yet view Judaism as a foundation for community, so needless to say, “Jewish” looks a lot different for a lot of different people. The Make Hillel Yours! Fellowship is an opportunity, through a year-long cohort experience, to answer that question for yourself.

Through Make Hillel Yours!, you’ll see yourself develop as a leader and as a community-builder, building relationships with students on campus in addition to your cohort. You’ll also be provided a provocative, non-judgmental space and resources from Brown RISD Hillel to ask and express, what is “Jewish” to YOU?

Make Hillel Yours! Looks like:

Weekly cohort meetings with other Fellows
Bi-weekly supervision meetings (max 30 minutes)
2 projects in the Spring Term, based on your interests
Regular 1:1 meetings with YOUR friends-- including as many Jews as you know-- to ask Jewish questions*

What do you mean, “projects”?

Campus Engagement
- Create something that will engage networks across campus
For the Squad
- Create a Jewish experience for the communities close to you
Content Creation
- Create a podcast, video, or another viewable or consumable project
Justice
- Take on a project related to social justice

A Make Hillel Yours! Fellow should be:

Outgoing and excited about getting to know new people. Part of your role will be meeting and getting to know Jewish students from outside your social orbit!
Creatively thinking about what bringing your version of “Jewish” to life looks like! Especially during a pandemic.
Passionate about the things that matter to you, bringing them to life, and sharing them with others.
Inquisitive and ready to explore YOUR Judaism, to explore yourself, and to explore how you want to express each of them.
Committed to contributing to the community and doing the work to Make Hillel Yours!

Specifically, Make Hillel Yours! will give you:

Purposeful work: Creating community and making people feel welcomed and part of something greater is seriously holy work. You are becoming a part of people’s stories
Skills for your life and your resume: Think community organizing, project management, fundraising, strategy, volunteer management, and high levels of learning.
A meaningful Jewish experience: By helping others figure out their place in the greater Jewish narrative, you will have the opportunity to explore your own and ask some deep questions with a group of thoughtful peers.
Fun and Snacks: Speak for themselves.
